MOVE YOUR “PHEET” 2026

We Are Back

May is National PKU Awareness Month.

PKU (Phenylketonuria) is a rare metabolic disorder that prevents the body from properly breaking down an amino acid called phenylalanine (“Phe”). Because of this, individuals with PKU must follow a strict low-protein diet. This includes carefully weighing food, tracking the Phe in everything they eat, and consuming medical formula daily to stay healthy.

If someone with PKU goes off their diet or consumes too much protein, it can impact brain function and lead to serious, permanent damage.

To learn more about PKU and how our mission began, please visit the “What is PKU?” and “About PKU Alaska” sections on our website.

Move Your “Pheet” – Alaska

During the month of May, the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA) hosts the national Move Your “Pheet” campaign, encouraging people around the world affected by PKU to get out and get moving.

We are excited to take it a step further by hosting our own event here in Alaska—raising funds to support research, resources, and the PKU community. We may be small, but we are mighty.

We hope you will consider joining us on May 29th. If you are unable to attend, please consider donating or sharing this event with your friends and family.

WE ARE BACK!

As you may or may not know, May is National PKU Awareness Month. PKU (Phenylketonuria) is a rare metabolic disease that prevents your body from breaking down an amino acid called Phenylalanine AKA “Phe”. Due to this, those with PKU must maintain a strict diet with low protein foods. This means weighing out food, counting the “phe” in everything that you eat and making sure you get enough formula throughout the day so that your body can stay happy and healthy. If somebody with PKU were to ever go off of their diet or have too much protein, it will effect the way their brain works and can cause serious brain damage. To read more about PKU and why our mission started, please go to the “What is PKU?” as well as “About PKU Alaska”.

With May being National PKU Awareness month, the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA) hosts a national Move Your “Pheet” even throughout the entire month of May which encourages all of those around the world, effected by PKU to get out and move their “Pheet”. We thought we would take it one step further and host our own event up here in Alaska to raise funds that will help research and resources for those with PKU. We may be small town compared to some others but we sure are mighty! We hope you will take time to consider joining us on May 30th for our event this year. If you are not able to make it, please consider donating as well as sharing with your friends and family!

Please join us for the Move Your “Pheet” 2026 5K walk/run. If you did not get to join us last year for this AMAZING event, now is your chance! If you did join us for this event in 2025, we hope to see you back this year! Same event, same place but hopefully even bigger and better!

Please join us on May 29th starting @ 5:00 PM at the South Anchorage Sports Complex

We will be there to start handing out T-Shirts @ 4:00 PM, please join us early so we can get all of the announcements made, t-shirts handed out and then we can start the 2026 Move Your “Pheet” 5K run/walk at 5:00 PM on the dot!

Just like last year, following the run we will be moving on over to the Fox Hollow Chalet @ 6:30 PM located at 11701 Brayton Drive where we will have the reception, which includes dinner, drinks and a silent auction!

Please register and don’t forget to let us know your t-shirt sizes!
